Did Juice Diet Play a Part in Peaches Geldof s Death

Many stars seem to view the juice diet as a waist-whittling savior that they can rely on whenever they need to quickly slim down for a movie role. However, recent reports suggest that one of the restrictive diets may have played a part in the death of 25-year-old British socialite Peaches Geldof.

According to Life & Style, Peaches once admitted that she would go on juice diets for three weeks at a time. She only consumed three veggie drinks every day during the diet, and she’d lose about 10 pounds. Cath Collins, a spokeswoman for the British Dietetic Association, warned Geldof that her extreme diet put her «at high risk of electrolyte abnormalities which could lead to acute cardiac arrest.» Collins pointed out that restrictive diets like this can kill people suffering from anorexia.

The results of Peaches Geldof’s autopsy was inconclusive, but an old interview has surfaced in which Peaches claimed that she had high cholesterol and «the heart of a 90-year-old gangster.» Her family and fans are now waiting to see if a toxicology report will offer any answers.

Even if Peaches’ death had nothing to do with her yo-yo juice diet, the popular «cleanses» probably aren’t safe. You likely won’t die if you do them for a day or two, but it’s crazy that Peaches deprived her body for a whole month. Dr. Oz once talked about juice dieting on his show, and he pointed out that some dieters can get addicted to consuming nothing but juice because they love the rapid weight loss that they experience. He dubbed the phenomenon «juicerexia» and pointed out that juice cleanses can cause deadly heart problems.

Unfortunately, celebrities like Beyonce have made juice cleanses more popular than they should be. To lose 20 pounds for Dreamgirls, Beyonce went on the Master Cleanse diet. The insane «cleanse» involves drinking a concoction consisting of lemonade, cayenne pepper, lemons, and maple syrup. That’s all the nutrition you get. Queen Bey later said that she wouldn’t recommend the ridiculously restrictive diet, but she couldn’t kill the terrible trend that she created by going on it in the first place.
